MSc by Research positions

UPS2 has a number of opportunities for 12 month MSc by Research projects available to graduates in engineering, physics or related disciplines. Applicants are eligible for a bursary of up to £17,000pa dependent on qualifications and experience. Examples of current topics are:

Ultra-precision tool alignment for diamond machining of complex, highly accurate microstructures

Laser assisted plasma processing for ultra-precision surfaces

Ultra-high accuracy profilometer development

These positions will require the successful candidate to demonstrate a desire and drive to develop practical technical solutions and working demonstrators. There is no taught course or examination for these positions, the award of an MSc is dependent on the quality of a thesis submitted at the end of the project. Academic publication of the outcomes of the research will be actively encouraged. As with projects in taught MSc courses, support will be provided by an academic supervisor, and in some cases by industrial sponsors.

Students can be based at the Cranfield campus in Bedfordshire, or at the OpTIC Technium in St Asaph, North Wales.
